amaAmbush day 1

July 10, 2009

Am an intern at amaAmbush and the first day of the internship was very tense from my side as to I was to totally clueless as to what and how a marimba is made.

So this day was very resourceful I came to learn about the different marimbas that are produced and I was introduced to the operation’s team the two guys who are in charge of production (marimba makers) Michael and Thulani.

They taught me how to sand a plank and the showed me all the marimba boxes that were already made.

amaAmbush factory day 4

July 8, 2009

Today were very much hands on, because we were putting on the keys.

We did the alto, tenor and the bass keys.

I enjoyed the day very much and am looking forward to tomorrow when we will start a new marimba from scratch box, keys and the works.

A visit to the amaAmbush office

July 8, 2009

Today we went to the offices in Kenilworth and I loved the fact that the place is nice and intimate.

There were 4 staff members who were very friendly and welcoming and all the questions we wanted to ask were answered in detail.

Ross and his team, Tracy, Grant and Jill, seem like they work well together and even though their work areas are close together they are able to have their own space. I enjoyed that a lot because I feel you don’t need lots of space to start your business.

We were given CD to listen to I find it very different to what I usually listen to, but the music speaks to my soul.

amaAmbush factory day 2

July 8, 2009

Today it was different from yesterday as I was introduced to many of the materials that they were using and know most of them were used today like the grinder, you use it for cutting the planks and of course both of the sanding machines the big and the small one.

I was given the opportunity to varnish a plank. And that for me was big because I had never done any of the above mention. Because I had always thought that these kinds of jobs and careers are made for males not females.

All in all I had a fabulous day.
